How to read private jet performance specifications.

Range

Range is quoted three ways in manufacturer publications — and the differences are significant. Long-range cruise range reflects the aircraft flying at its most fuel-efficient speed, typically well below maximum cruise. Maximum cruise range reflects the shorter distance achieved at full speed. Seats-full range reflects what the aircraft can actually fly with a full passenger load rather than a reduced ferry weight. For most owner-operators, the seats-full figure at long-range cruise speed is the most honest representation of real-world capability on a typical mission.

Speed

Long-range cruise and maximum cruise speeds are both shown. The difference reflects the fuel-cost tradeoff of flying faster — relevant for buyers managing annual fuel budgets versus those prioritizing block time reduction on high-frequency missions.

Ceiling

Service ceiling determines the aircraft's ability to climb above weather, optimize fuel burn in thinner air, and operate effectively in high-altitude or hot-and-high environments. Aircraft certificated to FL450 and above carry a meaningful operational advantage on long sectors.

Runway Performance

Takeoff and landing distances at ISA, sea-level conditions. The most frequently underweighted specification at acquisition — and the one most likely to define operational utility over the life of the aircraft.

Cabin

Height, width, and length. Stand-up cabin height — generally 5.8 feet and above — is the inflection point for operational comfort on transcontinental and transatlantic missions.

Powerplant

Engine make, model, and count. Relevant for engine program evaluation, maintenance cost planning, and parts availability — particularly for buyers evaluating older or out-of-production aircraft types.
