In May 1983, OMNI’s database was so extensive that the idea of a paid subscriber based database took form in this May 1983 letter from George Marshall to thousands of aviation operators. In 1985, OMNI built a 20,000 SF FBO facility on the eastern shore of Maryland called Easton Jet Service at the Easton, Maryland (KESN) airport for the purpose of storing OMNI owned aircraft.
In 1971, OMNI creates the first comprehensive database (non-computerized) of all private jets and their owners. This would be the foundation for subsequent development of OMNI’s first IBM system 36 mainframe computer system. 1972 Omni Aircraft Sales photo gallery I n December of 1973, Omni Aircraft Sales purchased Gulfstream II SN 67 from Frank Sinatra and resells the aircraft to the Government of Liberia
OFFICE: 410-820-7300 Wayne Hilmer always had interest in aviation and purchased his first aircraft prior to even getting his pilots license. He was soon buying and selling light aircraft. In July 1963, just as the very first LearJet models 23 & 24 came into use, OMNI AIRCRAFT SALES opened its offices at Hyde field just outside Washington DC. OMNI was a chief architect in the jet resale industry being one of the first companies in the world to actively promote and develop a pre-owned market for the first generation of business jets such as the LearJet, Jetstar, Sabreliner and Gulfstream. OMNI developed and refined many of the offer, acceptance and contract protocols still used in the aircraft sales industry today. This was at a time that telex machines were state of the art in global communication technology. In 1967, OMNI moved from its Hyde field offices to its new modern executive offices at 2401 Virginia Ave in Washington DC adjacent to the Watergate office complex in downtown Washington, DC. In 1967, Wayne Hilmer and Omni Aircraft were acknowledged as “the free world’s leading merchants of used aircraft” on the October edition of Washingtonian Magazine. In 1971, OMNI creates the first comprehensive database (non-computerized) of all private jets and their owners. This would be the foundation for subsequent development of OMNI’s first IBM system 36 mainframe computer system. 1972 Omni Aircraft Sales photo gallery In December of 1973, Omni Aircraft Sales purchased Gulfstream II SN 67 from Frank Sinatra and resells the aircraft to the Government of Liberia In 1975 and 1976, following the end of the Vietnam War, the CIA liquidated Air America and sold its surviving aircraft fleet to Omni Aircraft Sales, Inc. Omni purchased dozens of Air America planes, including a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter sold for $275,000, and a larger fleet package of the iconic Bell 204B helicopters that evacuated Saigon that sold for about $3.9 million. Omni then resold the aircraft to private and government buyers, with all the money returning to the U.S. Treasury. The sale of Air America's assets represented a major milestone in surplus aircraft sales. Omni Aircraft Sales, a Washington, D.C.-based firm at the time, acted as the buyer and broker to liquidate these surviving assets. The sale included a variety of transport aircraft that Air America had utilized across Southeast Vietnam. In March 1976, Omni Aircraft Sales purchased N950PB, Hugh Hefner’s “Black Bunny: DC-9 aircraft and subsequently resold the aircraft to AeroMexico. Through the 1970’s OMNI created the most innovative pre-owned aircraft advertising brochures. OMNI also pioneered cold calling and research calls of all owners on a regular basis, a practice we still use today and adopted by many of our competitors. The name OMNI was inspired by the Omni VOR navigation aid. In Greek, it means “in all directions”. ** Please note, OMNIJET and the Hilmer family are the original “OMNI AIRCRAFT SALES” of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The founders of OMNIJET transitioned to “The Omni International Jet Trading” in 1977 and OMNIJET in 2001. Subsequently, a separate unrelated company appropriated our name of Omni Aircraft Sales. However, OMNIJET is not affiliated with this company.

In 1988, Wayne J. Hilmer Jr became the president of OMNI. In 1990, the 1st Iraq war created a change in the market and led Mr. Hilmer Jr. to move the company to its executive FBO facility EASTON JET SERVICE,INC based in Easton, Maryland. This move reorganized the company into a more efficient and cost competitive operation necessary to compete with many new aircraft brokerage firms getting started at the time. It also allowed OMNI staff greater use of the company aircraft directly from the office to meet clients and to accept consigned aircraft while they were for sale. With the dawn of the internet, OMNI opened satellite offices and quickly developed into a web-centric operation. During the 1990’s the company traded as the “OMNI Jet Trading Center”.
